The Good Guys Notes #5 - Interview PETA / GOOD GUYS

Posted by Good Guys on

Hello fellow Good Guys friends,

Welcome to The Good Guys Notes #5

Today, the owner of Good Guys, Marion Hanania is interviewing PETA.

Before we start, let's try and understand what PETA is?

Let's introduce them to those who don't know yet. PETA was created by Ingrid E. Newkirk, PETA President and co-author of Animalkind . PETA means "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals" and is the largest animal rights organization globally, with more than 6.5 million members and supporters.

PETA opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview, and focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the most extended periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry.

PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.

Let's start the Interview.

Marion: How are you usually celebrating Pride month at PETA, and why is it a celebration dear to your heart?

PETA: PETA has long participated in Pride events around the country to show its support for the rights of all individuals to be free from discrimination, harassment, and harm. Oppression against anyone is never okay, regardless of species. The same arrogance and indifference that some have toward animals have at times been directed towards members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

M: We created this T-shirt, "ALOHA to all beings", How do you connect Animal rights to Human rights daily in your many "good fights"?

P: When PETA compares animal suffering to human suffering, we compare the systematic oppression of certain groups of people, past and present, to the continued oppression of animals today (such as on factory farms, in laboratories, and in circuses). PETA's message is that oppression is wrong, regardless of the race, gender, age, nationality, sexuality, religion, ability, or species of the victims and our campaigns are designed to inspire people to put prejudice based on species behind them.

M: Obviously, we love Peta and all the fantastic work you are doing. How did you discover us at Good Guys? What caught your eyes?

P: Good Guys has a fabulous line of on-trend footwear and accessories that are comfortable, stylish, and durable. But of course what we love most is that your company is 100% vegan – meaning that no animal-derived materials are used. .

Just like eating vegan is vital to combating climate change, wearing vegan is also a must, and your products are a prime example of how footwear can be eco- and animal-friendly. There’s no excuse for wearing shoes made of skin torn from smart, social, sensitive animals such as cows, especially when you can bring your shoe game to the next level and slip on some Good Guys vegan shoes!

M: Do you see a growing interest in veganism and animal rights? Maybe more vegan companies or other non-profit that you think are doing a great job?

P: More than ever, compassionate shoppers are opting to buy the high-quality, animal-free fashions that are currently flooding store shelves. With such easy access to kind fashion, there’s never been a better time to rid our closets of animal-derived materials.

Right now, more than 1,500 companies are using the PETA-Approved Vegan logo (www.PETAApprovedVegan.com) to highlight their vegan apparel, accessories, or home furnishing goods. The logo helps consumers shop vegan at a glance and purchase animal-free, vegan clothing and accessories. Good Guys Don’t Wear Leather also supports our work as a PETA Business Friend – in this special program, PETA partners and recognizes vegan or cruelty-free companies. You can check out all PETA Business Friends at www.PETAMall.com.

M: We are thrilled that we can donate a part of the sales to PETA. Can you tell us if the donations are directed towards specific projects and how it works? (I know it's a complicated and long topic, but we are very interested in the process)

P: A percentage of proceeds of the PETA and Good Guys limited edition Pride box will go towards PETA’s campaigns targeting industries in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We’re delighted to have Good Guys’ help in paving the way to a brighter future for animals!

M: Thanks so much for collaborating with us at Good Guys and creating a bridge between a more conscious fashion industry and activism to help "all beings" live better lives.

P: Thank you! We’re looking forward to our partnership with Good Guys, including the limited-edition Pride box. Each box is packed with fabulous vegan items that celebrate love and embrace diversity—and everything in it is made of vegan materials, because animals don’t belong in the closet, either!

Find the SILVER Pride-Box and the GOLD Pride-Box on our website, available through all June. We donate 15% of the proceeds to PETA and 10% of the T-shirts and Jerry slides that we will sell separately during June.

Thanks for sticking with us and supporting Good Guys since 2011.
